Antique Silver JARDINIERES description:

A large table bowl normally used for holding a plant and flower display.

Antique Silver JARDINIERES history:

The earliest known examples of Jardinières date from the late 18th Century. They were made throughout the latter part of the Georgian period, into the Victorian period, and are still being made today, but in much smaller numbers.

Antique Silver JARDINIERES design:

Jardinières were often circular in design. Occasionally oval, and often with hand-pierced decoration, together with hand-chased or engraved floral work. Made either sitting on legs or with a pedestal foot to raise the display further off the table.

Antique Silver JARDINIERES collectors note:

Most examples will be Continental in origin. It is quite rare to find one with a British hallmark. Some were made with silver-plated or silver liners. If a silver liner is evident then check that the hallmarks are the same as on the main body to make sure that it is original. If the Jardinière is pierced check to make sure that there are no missing pieces.
