Antique Silver QUAICHS description:

A quaich is a shallow circular bowl with two flat handles either side. The early ones were used as drinking vessels.

Antique Silver QUAICHS history:

The earliest known examples of silver quaichs date from the early 1600s and are Scottish in origin. They were made throughout the Georgian and Victorian periods and are still being made today.

Antique Silver QUAICHS design:

The vast majority of silver quaichs were plain with shallow circular bowls two to six inches in diameter with two flat curving handles at the level of the rim. Sometimes they were engraved with simple designs to represent staves.

Antique Silver QUAICHS collectors note:

The date and level of craftsmanship determine the value of a quaich, and any with a provincial hallmark are particularly sought after. But they must also be undamaged with good clear hallmarks.
