Antique Silver EGG CRUETS description:

A table item, often called an egg frame, for holding and serving boiled eggs.

Antique Silver EGG CRUETS history:

The earliest known examples date from the 1740s. They were made throughout the Georgian and Victorian periods, and into the early part of the twentieth century.

Antique Silver EGG CRUETS design:

Basically, a stand, sometimes made from wire-work, for holding two to eight removable egg-cups, together with slots or hooks for supporting egg-spoons, and usually attached to a base plate with feet. Unusual examples may have a single removable salt bowl, and/or a toastrack. The egg-cup interiors and spoon bowls were often gold-gilded.

Antique Silver EGG CRUETS collectors note:

Silver examples must have a main hallmark on the stand, together with corresponding part marks on the egg-cups and spoons, and any other attached item. Look closely at all parts which are soldered to make sure that there have been no repairs. Any replacement part will reduce the value of the set. Unusual examples in good condition will command the highest prices.
