Antique Silver COCKTAIL SHAKERS description:
A receptacle for mixing, shaking, and pouring cocktails.
Antique Silver COCKTAIL SHAKERS history:
A relatively modern invention, the vast majority were made in the 20th century and they are still being made today. The first ones were made in the 1920s.
Antique Silver COCKTAIL SHAKERS design:
They all follow the same basic design with cylindrical bodies, and sides that sloped outwards from the bottom upwards. Normally having a domed slip-on cover, under which is a central opening for pouring. Many were made with a removable pierced sieve covering the inside of the mouth to stop any ice or fruit falling into the cocktail glass.
Antique Silver COCKTAIL SHAKERS collectors note:
The vast majority of cocktail shakers were made in silver-plate. Silver ones are fairly rare. The mark on the lid and sieve (if present) should match the main mark on the body. Unusual designs and shakers made in the form of something, for example a lighthouse, command the highest prices.
